Exactly 10 years ago this day in 2007, a team of 15 dedicated students at UC San Diego pulled off and hosted the largest and oldest ethnic-specific students conference called KASCON (Korean-American Students Conference). To me personally, this is still the most meaningful and exhilarating experience I was fortunate to have been involved in, because it really shaped my outlook on what kind of direction we the young generation Korean-Americans should pave for ourselves in the larger America – that of politically engaged, socially conscious, culturally tolerant, and universally unifying group.
Happy to realize that after 10 years, I am engaged with what I regard to be the 2nd version of KASCON – JERONIMO the documentary project – for which I approach with an equal level of passion and excitement.
Really miss all you guys. Who would’ve guessed that we will look back on this event 10 years later as 30 something year old ajumma and ajuccies?
